A to Z Challenge - G is for GOD

Hello there. Welcome to Entrepreneurial Goddess.
I am taking part in the 2014 A-Z Challenge - 26 posts on 26 days of April, with Sundays off. Today's letter is: G for God [Click here to see my other AtoZ posts]

In Hebrew, God means "Mighty One; Strong One". There are many gods and goddesses in this world, but there is only One True God. He is not some nameless, powerless, voiceless entity as some might have you believe. You cannot see Him, because He is a spirit and He lives in the spirit realm, heaven, but He is very real.

His Name in Hebrew is represented by the Tetragrammaton יהוה and corresponds to the letters YHWH, which is pronounced Yahweh or more commonly Jehovah. (Psalms 83:18; Isaiah 42:8) He is Supreme Sovereign of the Universe in that He is the source of all life both in heaven and here on earth. (Psalms 36:9; Acts 17:24, 25) All around us there is testimony to His activity and greatness. (Genesis 1:1; Psalms 19:1; Psalms 100:3) Jehovah God has no beginning and no end. (Psalms 90:2; Revelation 10:6) He is the Ancient of Days (Daniel 7:9) in that He has always existed.

What sort of person is God?
God invites us to get to know Him and has provided the perfect tool (manual) to help us. It is His Word, the Bible. This is no ordinary book meant for casual reading though. This is a book about God from God. To know God well therefore, we must study the Bible daily, meditate on His words, ponder over events recorded in the Bible, which were recorded for our benefit and apply Bible counsel in our lives. Only then will we come to know and understand God as a loving personality who has feelings just like us and is hurt by the bad things we do when we sin against Him. (Psalms 103:7-10)

Do we need God?
We were not created to be independent of God. (Jeremiah 10:23) Think about Adam and Eve's disobedience and what happened to them when they decided they didn't need God anymore! The human governments of our time have shown that in spite of their good intentions, they cannot successfully bring about the changes needed to sustain worldwide peace and harmony. There's in-fighting within the same government, especially when you have a government made up of two different parties and you only have to turn on the news to see reports of daily uprisings, protests and unrest all over the world. The Bible tells us at Ecclesiastes 8:9: "Man has dominated man to his harm." We need good direction and there is only one qualified to fill this role - mankind's Maker, Jehovah God. (Isaiah 48:17,18)

Does God care about us?
The human race is condemned to death. Since Adam brought sin into the world, we get sick, we age and eventually we die. People have spent enormous amounts of time, money and resources on finding that "fountain of youth" like anti-aging creams, botox, plastic surgery and whatever else the trend of today might happen to be. Some of these methods do work to a degree, but the effects are only temporary. We still degenerate, get sick, grow old and die. In fact, diseases that were long thought to have died out are making a comeback, e.g. Ebola virus. We are powerless to stop these things. Do you really think this is how God intended life to be for us? Certainly not!!! God created us to live happily forever on a paradise earth under His rulership. That has always been His purpose and His plans have not changed. (Genesis 1:27, 28; Isaiah 45:18) Having carefully studied the Bible, I find the promise at Revelation 21:4 very comforting: "And He [Jehovah] will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away." No man or human government can bring about these changes, only God's Kingdom can. (Daniel 2:44; 2 Peter 3:13) To think about - it's this same Kingdom that you pray for whenever you recite the Lord's Prayer at Matthew 6:9, 10.

  1. Hi,

Your article is factual and what I find really good is that you have given the verses of scripture to back up what you say.

    Take care.
    Shalom,
Patricia (visiting from A to Z Blog Challenge)

    1. Hello Pat.
There is only One True God. His Word is definitely truth. God can strengthen us in times of weakness and His counsel can give us the solution to all of life's problems...we just have to know where to look in the Bible to find the answers. I am happy to know my God and to abide by his rules. I appreciate your comment and thank you for taking the time to visit.

  2. I recently listened to a futurist talk about the improvements in technology and the immortal posibilities. It seemed very far fetched, but actually I might not be too far away. Thanks for sharing your post about God. :)

    1. Hello Beth.
Many people do not believe God exists, let alone that there will be a new heaven (heavenly government) and a new earth (group of people). My faith comes from studying and researching the Bible, which is God's Word. I am convinced, based on previous Bible prophecy, that everything God has said in the Bible will come true. Thanks for visiting.
