Hello there. Welcome to Entrepreneurial Goddess.
I am taking part in the 2014 A-Z Challenge - 26 posts on 26 days of April, with Sundays off. Today's letter is: V for Vengeance [Click here to see my other AtoZ posts]
Has someone hurt you, provoked you or severely wronged you that you felt the need to take revenge and/or retribution against that person? Do you know that unless you have been authorized by God to exact revenge, you will be condemned by Him?
The Bible tells us vengeance belongs only to Jehovah. Only He, as Almighty God and Supreme Ruler has the power and capability to judge fairly and exact relevant punishment according to deed. (Deuteronomy 32:35; Romans 12:19)
Today, imperfect men (and women) have the tendency to take revenge on those they feel have done them an injustice or who they have deep-seated hatred for. Such acts are usually performed out of uncontrolled rage, the outcome of which is usually not good and more importantly will incur God's wrath.
While he was on earth, Jesus was never one day violent. Take for example the account of his last night in Gethsemane. When the soldiers came to arrest him, one of his disciples raised his sword and cut off the ear of the high priest's slave. Notice what Jesus said at Matthew 26:51-53: "Return your sword to its place, for all those who take up the sword will perish by the sword." Due to inherited imperfection, we have the inborn tendency to do wrong. Even Jesus' apostles had to struggle with this internal battle. (Romans 7:19, 21) The Bible tells us to be peaceable with all men. (Romans 12:18) Therefore, if we want to have Jehovah God's approval and blessing, we must work hard at cultivating the fruitage of the spirit - love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, mildness, self-control. (Galatians 5:22, 23)
