A DASH OF ENTREPRENEURIAL #23 | Suffering

Hello there. Welcome to Entrepreneurial Goddess and the 23rd post in my series entitled "Off On My Tangent!"

Let's recap: In a previous article, you learned that God's will is for us to be in a close friendship with Him and for us to live in peace and happiness on a paradise earth forever. You may be wondering if that's His will, why is there so much suffering in the world then? Let's look to the source of truth for answers, God's Word, the Bible.

I encourage you to read Ecclesiastes 8:9*, but for now we'll focus on what Genesis 2:16, 17* says: "Jehovah God also gave this command to the man: 'From every tree of the garden you may eat to satisfaction. But as for the tree of the knowledge of good and bad, you must not eat from it, for in the day you eat from it you will certainly die.'" What does this mean? The first human pair had freedom, but it was not absolute freedom. God would continue to provide for their material needs and they could keep on enjoying His blessings with the prospect of living forever in paradise earth without ever getting old, sick or dying provided they recognized Him as Creator and life-giver and remained obedient to His commands. This was crucial for them [and the entire human family]. Jehovah God created them in the first place so He alone rightly knew what they needed to be happy and live!
Sadly, the first human pair didn't appreciate everything Jehovah God had lovingly provided for them. If only they had obeyed and stayed within the limits God had put in place, they'd still be alive today! Just think, we'd all be living in a wonderful paradise as a loving, united family. There'd be no sickness, no suffering, no wickedness, no prejudice or religious separation and no death. The first human pair decided they'd rather be free from God, thinking they could do better on their own. By exercising their free will - the right to choose between doing good and doing bad - they chose to overstep God's command, disobeying Him in a most despicable act of betrayal [aided by Satan's ventriloquist snake act. To learn more about this, I invite you to read my mini Bible Series]. As a result of said disobedience, sin entered the world and death through sin. (Romans 5:12*) The first human pair got thrown out of their idyllic home, the Garden of Eden. (Genesis 3:23, 24*) Left to fend for themselves away from God's protection, they eventually withered and died - just like God said they would! (Genesis 3:19; 5:5*) As descendants of Adam then, we inherited his imperfection and sin, the tendency to do things "my way" rather than God's way. (Galatians 6:7, 8*) When we make poor choices, we reap bad consequences. (James 1:13-15*) Whether we choose to accept it or not, none of us has escaped Adam's curse...we are all sinners! (1 Kings 8:46*)
So when you are suffering and undergoing trial, never curse Jehovah God (Exodus 20:7; Leviticus 24:16*) or become angry at Him. (Job 34:10, 12*) If you must blame someone, blame Adam! Suffering also exists because: (1) Imperfect, sinful humans were not created to rule themselves independent of God. Ecclesiastes 8:9* says: "man has dominated man to his harm." (2) The world today reflects the influence of its cold-hearted, invisible ruler, Satan, who also chose independence by rebelling against God. (2 Corinthians 4:4; 1 John 5:19; Revelation 12:9*) (3) Time and unexpected occurrences affect us all. (Ecclesiastes 9:11*)

Footnote
What has been the result of human rulership [independence from God]? Hmm, let's see - 6,000 years have passed and different Empires have come and gone. Every type of religion and government has been tried [e.g. Capitalism, Monarchy, Communism, Democracy to name but a few]. With what result? Instead of worldwide peace and prosperity for all, there's been one war after the next, millions of innocent people murdered, tortured, imprisoned, raped, millions more dying from poverty and disease, while others have so much money they suffer from anxiety wondering who they can trust. There's always the underlying threat of nuclear war erupting. There's prejudice, intolerance, corruption. God's beautiful earth is being polluted and destroyed by humans, pillaged of its natural resources. Family life and moral values have all but disappeared. In fact, we live in a society where "anything goes" [think of Sodom and Gomorrah on a grander scale]. How often do you hear something really good and encouraging on the news? Be honest...still think human independence is working?
