Let's recap: In Pt.2, you learned that after Jesus instituted the Lord's Evening Meal, he was tortured, killed and ultimately resurrected on the third day. Was it really necessary for him to die? Consider what the Bible says.
To think about:
Jesus didn't have to come to earth to suffer and die. He could have stayed in heaven as a spirit with his Heavenly Father, Jehovah God! Instead, he willingly gave his human life in order that we might enjoy life the way God originally intended (Genesis 1:27-31; Matthew 20:28; Luke 22:42; John 15:13*). Without the ransom, we would have no hope of a future! We'd live to 60 or 70, maybe even 80 if we're in reasonably good health, but we'd still get sick, wither away and die (Psalms 90:10*). That would be the end of life for us. No going to hell or living on in another realm as some religions teach, no nothing (Ecclesiastes 9:5*).
The ransom then is totally undeserved, but is given as a beautiful gift from Jehovah God and Jesus (Romans 3:24*). The ransom is the means by which we can have our sins forgiven and the prospect of everlasting life in paradise earth...the same prospect Adam had but lost when he disobeyed Jehovah God. Now do you understand the importance of Jesus' ransom sacrifice to all of us and why we should all heed his command to remember it? (Luke 22:19*) Next time, we'll discuss something else Jesus said we must do - ENDURE. Pop on back for Pt.4!
