Religion 504

Hello there. Welcome to Entrepreneurial Goddess and my second mini series entitled "Religion".

Let's recap: In the previous article, you learned that when it comes to worshipping God, there are only two choices - God's way or Satan's. Many religions today have doctrines, teachings and practices that do not originate with God. Let's look at some of the popular lies religious beliefs and compare them with what the Bible actually says.

Common lie Belief #1: God's personal name is not important - "The use of any proper name for the one and only entirely inappropriate for the universal faith of the Christian Church." (Preface to the Revised Standard Version)
What the Bible Really Says: Jesus prayed for God's Name to be sanctified. (Matthew 6:9*)
Peter said: "Everyone who calls on the name of Jehovah will be saved." (Acts 2:21; Exodus 6:3; Revelation 4:11*)
[To think about: In Hebrew, God's name is represented by the Tetragrammaton יהוה which corresponds to the letters YHWH [JHVH], pronounced Yahweh or more commonly Jehovah. His Name appears over 7,000 times in the original Hebrew manuscripts. Interestingly, Jesus' name is not mentioned anywhere between Genesis and Malachi so who was the God that Abraham, Moses and others prayed to and how/when/why did that Name lose its respect and authority? (READ Leviticus 24:16*)]

Common lie Belief #2: The human soul is immortal - "When man dies his soul and body are disunited. His body...decays...The human soul, however, does not die." (What Happens After Death, a Roman Catholic publication)
What the Bible Really Says: Man is a soul. At death, the soul ceases to think, feel or function and returns to the dust from which it was made. Dead people cannot hurt us or help us. (Genesis 2:7; 3:19; Psalms 146:3, 4; Ecclesiastes 3:19, 20; 9:5, 10*)

Common lie Belief #3: The wicked are punished after death in hell [hellfire] - "According to traditional Christian belief, hell is a place of unending anguish and pain." (The World Book Encyclopedia, 1987 edition)
What the Bible Really Says: The wages sin pays is death, not life in torment, (Romans:6:23*) The dead rest unconscious in hell (Hades, Sheol - the common grave of mankind), awaiting a resurrection. (Psalms 89:48; John 5:28, 29; 11:24, 25; Revelation 20:13, 14*)
[To think about: Jesus was in Sheol [grave] before he was resurrected. Would it make sense for God, Jesus' heavenly Father, to put him in a place of fiery torment when he [Jesus] did absolutely nothing wrong? (Acts 2:31*)]

These are just a few comparisons. There are many more, but space here is limited. The point is that lies false beliefs are stumbling blocks in the pathway to truth. Knowledge is one thing, but accurate knowledge is what counts. The Bible says at Romans 10:2*: "They have a zeal for God, but not according to accurate knowledge."  I encourage you to study the Bible. Prove what is false and reject it. Prove what is true and hold on to it. Psalm 34:8* says: "Taste and see that Jehovah is good." You might not care about lies false religious beliefs and practices, but it matters to God. Why? Because accurate knowledge means your life! (John 17:3*)
