Off On My Tangent - GOD'S RULE versus MAN'S RULE

Hello there. Welcome to Entrepreneurial Goddess and the 37th post in my series entitled "Off On My Tangent!"

The issue of who has the right to rule and whose rule is right first came about in the Garden of Eden thousands of years ago. God specifically commanded the first human couple not to eat the fruit of a certain tree. If they did, it would be seen as a deliberate act of disobedience against Him and there was only one outcome...death! [Genesis 2:16, 17] Adam and Eve decided they were going to do things their way, aided by Satan who induced Eve to eat the fruit. Adam ate too and guess what? They both died. [Genesis 3:1-6; 19] Satan was not left without punishment though. He has a death sentence on him as well! [Genesis 3:14, 15] So whose rule is right and who has the right to rule?

Nothing has improved since Eden. In fact, conditions have gotten significantly worse. Mankind as a whole has continued to do things his way. Human kings, queens, dictators, presidents and leaders do as they please, telling people what they want to hear. [2 Timothy 4:3, 4] Most of them, if not all, lie, cheat, steal and are corrupt. [Psalms 26:10] They make a bunch of empty promises they really can't deliver. Promises like tackle global warming, wipe out fanatical religious groups, better healthcare, better jobs, better homes, better this, better that, blahdy, blahdy, blah! History has shown time and time again that human rulership has resulted in war, suffering, poverty, greed, injustice, prejudice, just to name a few. And don't forget about the impact on the earth - its natural resources being pillaged at an alarming rate, human and commercial waste, toxic dumping, oil spills, etc. all polluting the earth, air and sea.

On the other hand, God's promises are certain to be fulfilled. [Joshua 23:14; Isaiah 46:10, 11] He is not limited by any of the afflictions humans face or will succumb to. [Numbers 23:19; Psalms 146:3, 4] Jehovah God is the Almighty, Sovereign of the Universe. [Isaiah 40:28; 45:18] Because He has always existed, His righteous standards never change. [Malachi 3:6] And because He never lies, we can always rely on Him. [Titus 1:2] Nothing can stand in His way. No one can stop Him! [Isaiah 55:11] Just look at some of His guaranteed promises for humans and the entire earth:

  • No more wars - Psalms 72:7; Isaiah 2:4
  • No need of healthcare or insurance - Job 33:25; Isaiah 33:24; 35:5, 6
  • No more anxiety, stress or bitter tears - Revelation 21:3-5
  • No more slums, ghettos, shacks or high-rise apartments - Isaiah 65:21, 22
  • No more poverty - Psalms 72:12, 13; Joel 2:19
  • Everlasting life - Psalms 37:29; John 17:3

I don't know about you, but the person I choose to be my ruler must be merciful, compassionate, slow to anger, loyal, have the ability to act, have an excellent track record, can deliver on all his promises and be someone whom I can trust implicitly. Human rulers are imperfect, some quality or other is always going to be lacking. [Psalms 146:3, 4; Jeremiah 10:23] This is why I take to heart most profoundly the counsel found at Acts 5:29*: "We must obey God as ruler rather than men." God is perfect, He has no flaws. [Exodus 34:6, 7] My obedience, therefore, is to God's Kingdom [Matthew 6:9, 10] and to Jehovah God, the only One who has the right to rule and whose Rule is absolutely right! [Isaiah 48:17, 18; 2 Timothy 3:16, 17]
