Hello there. Welcome to Entrepreneurial Goddess and the 43rd post in my series entitled "Off On My Tangent!"

Have you ever heard something that sounded too good to be true? How would you go about proving what you'd heard was in fact true? Well, you'd probably make a thorough investigation into the report you'd heard to prove the truth of the matter. That's what the Beroeans did in Biblical times when they first heard about Christianity from the apostle Paul. They didn't immediately dismiss the things they'd heard neither did they display a cynical or critical attitude. Rather, the Beroeans listened respectfully to Paul's message, which led them to carefully examine the Scriptures to prove what they'd heard from Paul was in fact the truth. (Acts 17:10-12) With what result? The Bible tells us that "many of them [Beroeans] became believers." The Beroeans had identified the true religion.

Just like in Biblical times, there are many religious orders today. They cannot all be right. Why not? Because they all have different teachings and doctrines, most of which are based on human rituals, traditions and philosophies (Colossians 2:8) - they are religiously divided. The Bible tells us how to identify true religion. (Matthew 7:16, 17) Let's consider some of the features or fruits of true religion:

  • True religion bases all its teachings on God's Word, the Bible. (John 4:24; 17:17; 2 Timothy 3:16, 17)
  • True religion helps people get to know God, including knowing his Name is Jehovah. (Psalms 83:18; John 17:3, 6)
  • True religion focuses attention on God's Kingdom, not man's governments, as the only hope for mankind. (Psalms 146:3; Daniel 2:44; Matthew 6:10; 24:14)
  • True religion promotes and practices unselfish love. (John 13:34, 35) It teaches people to respect all ethnic groups. (Colossians 3:14) Those who practice true religion shun war and do not kill each other. (Micah 4:1-4; 1 John 3:10-12; 4:20-21)
  • Those who practice true religion accept Jesus Christ as God's only means of salvation. (John 3:36; 14:6)

God has set the standard of how He wants us to worship Him. (John 4:23, 24) Simply believing in God is not enough to gain His approval. (James 2:19) To be approved by God, we must believe He exists and we must also do His will. (Psalms 143:10; Isaiah 43:10; Hebrews 11:6) Just like the Beroeans mentioned earlier did, I encourage you to take some time to examine the practices of your religion then compare that to what the Bible actually says about false religion (Matthew 7:13-23) Why? Because your life is at stake! (John 17:3)
