A to Z Challenge | L is for LIP BALM

Hello there. Welcome to Entrepreneurial Goddess.
I'm taking part in the 2015 AtoZ Challenge - 26 posts on 26 days of April with Sundays off. My theme is "Things around my home". All photos are by me, Entrepreneurial Goddess. Find my other entries here...
For the last couple of years, I've been trying to wean myself away from chemically-laden beauty products. As such, I make my own non-greasy face serum, hair pomade, body cream, lotions, lip balm and my newest creation for letter F - Entrepreneurial Face Scrub. I never imagined I could be so creative!

Anyway, there are so many websites and videos out there on how to make these things that it can be quite overwhelming [I know, I've seen my fair share of "How To" videos already]. I'm really enjoying experimenting with different oils and butters and seeing my creations come to fruition. Initially, I did have to spend money to buy the base products and containers, etc., but in the long run, I'm saving myself money by making my own. I sterilize and reuse my containers and the ingredients I usually buy in bulk so they last me quite a long time - a 5 lb block of Shea Butter, for example, has lasted more than a year and a half. For someone who used to be a die-hard shopper, I've become quite the Frugal Goddess! I'll never go back to commercial creams and lotions again. I've even gone "au naturel" hairwise...but we'll have to save my hair tangents for another post! In the meantime, if you're interested in making Lip Balm, just click the photo for the recipe and step-by-step tutorial.
Today's letter is: L for Lip Balm

See you next time!

  1. Wow! That's cool for two reasons: (1) I avoid chemicals as much as possible and can use to learn such a recipe as (2) I feel I cannot live without lip balm! ...you may appreciate this post - http://xpressyouressence.blogspot.ca/2015/03/wordy-wednesday-3-essential.html ;) <3

    1. Hello Elly.
You reflect my sentiments exactly! I've been going through some of my beauty products and the list of chemicals is quite shocking. I'm not completely chemical-free, but I'm working on it!
Thanks for the link...I'll pop over to read it.
      I appreciate the visit.

  2. Sounds great, Barbara. When you're making them at least you know what you're getting.

    1. Hello Joy.
I agree. Plus, I find it kind of therapeutic creating simple goodies like lip balm from scratch!
      Thanks for stopping by.

  3. My daughters have been experimenting with homemade products. I'll have to give them the recipe for the lip balm.

    Thanks for sharing.

  4. I think natural stuff is a better way to go. I use a little Vaseline-that's all

    1. Hello Birgit.
I used to be a huge fan of Vaseline, but once I realized what it was actually made of, I had to stop using it..."byproduct of oil refining found coating the bottom of oil rigs in 1800s" (www.vaseline.us/faq.html). Yuk! Doesn't sound too natural to me!
      I appreciate the visit.
